Your guide to the weekend for March 9/10

You will find lots of fun activities in Moose Jaw this weekend. The following list highlights events that will keep Moose Javians busy on Saturday and Sunday. Be sure to join in on the fun!

Gun Show

Outdoor hobbyists will be kept busy this weekend, thanks to the annual Gun Show. On Saturday the show will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Moose Jaw Exhibition Centre. It will continue on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The show is sponsored by the South Saskatchewan Wildlife Association. Guests will be able to explore over 160 tables of firearms and supplies. Admission is just $5 for adults and children 12 and under are free, provided they are accompanied by an adult.  

Learn Dungeons and Dragons

Want to get into D&D but don’t know how to get started? The Moose Jaw Public Library will hold a special information session for beginners at 1 p.m. on Saturday. You will learn all about the terminology, game mechanics, and how to create a character. There is no need to register ahead of time and there is no cost associated with attending the program. It is open to everyone who is 13 years of age and older.  

Laura Hamilton art opening

Need more art in your life? Moose Jaw’s Laura Hamilton will host an art opening on Saturday afternoon at the gallery in the Moose Jaw Cultural Centre. Hamilton’s latest show, “The Moments in Between,” is on display now. Appetizers and a cash bar will be available and the first 100 people through the door will receive a signed 5x7 reproduction. The event runs from 2 to 4 p.m.

Sugar Shack

The Association communautaire fransaskoise de Moose Jaw (ACF Moose Jaw) will host their annual Sugar Shack event on Saturday, March 9 at École Ducharme. The evening will feature a traditional sugar shack meal, consisting of tourtière, ham, pancakes, maple taffy on snow, and more. There will also be entertainment in the form of French Canadian stories and songs performed by Pére Garneau et les Rats d’Swompe. Supper is at 5:30 and the show is at 7 p.m.

Warriors vs. Pats

The Warriors will take on their rivals the Regina Pats in the second half of a home-and-home series on Saturday night. Moose Jaw has dominated the season series thus far, so you can expect Mosaic Place will be loud. The game starts at 7 p.m. Tickets are available at the Mosaic Place box office.

Moose Jaw Wildlife Federation ice fishing tournament

Hit the ice at Buffalo Pound on Sunday for the sixth annual Youth and Family Ice Fishing Tournament. With warmer weather on the way, this might be one of your last chances to fish this season. Prizes will be awarded for biggest fish in both the kids (ages 2-15) and adult (16 and up) categories. The event runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. You can register on Sunday morning. Bring your fishing gear!
