MOOSE JAW – The City of Moose Jaw advises that traffic detours at the intersection of 2nd Avenue NE and Manitoba Street E will be adjusted for approximately one week starting Tuesday, Sept.2 to support continued progress on the signalized intersection upgrade project.

To support ongoing construction, Manitoba Street E will be reduced to a single lane in both directions. Meanwhile, northbound and southbound traffic on 2nd Avenue NE will be fully closed at the intersection, with detours in place to guide drivers to alternate routes.

Drivers should expect delays and are reminded to obey all temporary traffic signage and exercise caution in construction zones to keep everyone safe. No more #NotoriouslyClose calls.

Can-Traffic Services Ltd., a contractor for the City’s Engineering Services Department, began constructing new traffic lights and southside concrete pedestrian islands on Monday, August

25. This project includes installing a new traffic cabinet, signals, streetlights, concrete/asphalt removal and replacement, line painting and restoration. The work is expected to wrap up by September 30th, weather permitting.

The City seeks to update and create more efficient signalized traffic light controller programming and address increasing traffic volumes and demands. Applied budget is focused on replacing aged traffic control infrastructure, as well as physical intersection redesign to allow for more efficient vehicular and pedestrian movement.

The 2nd Avenue NE and Manitoba Street E signalized intersection was recommended for full replacement during the Traffic Signal Equipment Review in the 2024 Transportation Master Plan as significant improvements can be made to improve vehicular and pedestrian safety.
