Spectacular Saturday: Saskatchewan wins 21 medals in single day at Canada Summer Games

Team Sask wins six gold, seven silver and eight bronze to nearly double medal total for second straight day

ST. JOHN’S -- Saskatchewan had a pretty good day on Friday at the Canada Summer Games, but that impressive medal haul didn’t even remotely compare to how well things went on Saturday.

Team Sask would win no less than 21 medals in a single day -- the majority coming in athletics and individual wrestling -- and are all but guaranteed to finish in sixth place in the medal standings.

Five gold medals came from track and field. Saskatoon’s Brendan Cote-Williamson picked up his second top finish in the Men’s Para Ambulatory class with a win in the 400 metres, while Regina’s Jonathan Podbielski won the men’s 5,000 metres, Regina’s Shelaine Pritchard took first place in the women’s heptathlon, Assiniboia’s Bradyn Giraudier won gold in the Men’s Special Olympics 200 metres and the women’s 4x400 metres team were tops in their race.
