The University of Saskatchewan Huskies led Team West to a 32-20 victory over Team East at the East-West Bowl on Saturday in Waterloo, Ontario.
Huskies’ quarterback Anton Amundrud engineered four scoring drives in the victory.
On Saturday afternoon, the Huskies were well represented among the top Canadian university football players, with four University of Saskatchewan student-athletes participating in the all-star game, which showcased the best CFL draft-eligible players.
Amundrud, entering his fourth season with the Huskies and third as Saskatchewan's starting quarterback, was the only passer to surpass 100 yards on the day, throwing for 301 while completing 19 of 29 attempts. The day's highlight came early for the Huskie quarterback, who found Laurier receiver Layomi Ojutalayo for an 11-yard major after just eight minutes of action for the contest's first score. Amundrud led another scoring drive for Team West later in the opening quarter, ending in a field goal after Waterloo pivot Nick Orr took over under centre.
Splitting duties with Orr, Amundrud led two more scoring drives, both in the fourth quarter, which ended in a pair of touchdowns from Guelph running backs Donovan Milloy and Isaiah Smith.
Saskatchewan running back Kayden Miller also impressed with 42 rushing yards on nine carries and caught three passes for 55 yards. Miller was a late addition to the team after his Huskies’ teammate Nathan Jule was not cleared to participate.
Saskatchewan’s Jack Warrack and Charlie Parks also represented the Huskies and performed well. Warrack, a 2024 Canada West All-Star offensive lineman, was part of Team West’s offensive line that allowed just one sack. Defensive lineman Charlie Parks, meanwhile, helped hold Team East to just 189 total yards of offence, including a mere 74 on the ground.
On the sidelines, Saskatchewan's Mason Nyhus served as Team West Offensive Coordinator, leading the all-star team to 540 yards of offence and four majors.
The victory marked Team West's seventh win in the past eight editions of the all-star game. Team West continues to cut into Team East's 14-8 advantage all-time in the East-West Bowl.
