Cougars split with OHA Edmonton, sweep Northern Alberta at tournament in Edmonton

The Prairie Hockey Academy Cougars closed out another solid Canadian Sport School Hockey League showcase weekend on Sunday afternoon, taking a 3-1 win over the Northern Alberta Xtreme Elite in Edmonton to close out their trip with a 3-1 record.

The Cougars had earlier dropped a 4-2 decision to OHA Edmonton before downing OHA 5-4 and defeating Northern Alberta 5-4 in overtime.

Sunday’s contest saw yet another comeback win for PHA, as they trailed 1-0 heading into the third but were able to rally with three goals to secure the victory.

Ethan Peters tied the game with a power play goal seven minutes into the third, followed by Liam McInnis with another marker on the man advantage with 7:41 remaining. Easton Ediger added an empty-netter to cap scoring.

Chase Coward made 35 saves to take the win in net.

The Cougars were 2-for-7 on the power play.

The showcase closed out the regular season for PHA, with the Cougars finishing with a 23-12-0 record and in fifth place.

PHA will now prepare for the CSSHL postseason, taking place Mar. 13-17 in Penticton, B.C.. The top eight teams make the playoffs, divided into two four-team round robin pools. The top two teams from each pool advance to the semifinals.

Dates, times, teams and seedings have yet to be determined.
