Residents, board members, volunteer drivers and local, municipal and federal dignitaries gathered in the Town of Gravelbourg on Dec. 19 for a ribbon-cutting ceremony to recognize the two achievements.

Predictable, but always warm and fuzzy, up until now.

“This is one of our biggest fundraisers, so we really appreciate the public’s support for this,” announced Donna MacQuarrie-Bye

“The children are absolutely amazing,” he said. “I can’t believe some of the things they check out. They really think about what they’re going to buy for their loved ones.”

To date, the holiday train tradition has raised more than $24.3 million along with over 5.3 million pounds (2.4 million kilograms) of food since its inception in 1999.

“Everybody pitches in and makes it a go,” he said. “So, we really appreciate all the moving parts to make it a success.”

"Community-wise, it’s amazing because people get together and help each other out," Gail Hoffos said.

Nearly 90 guests and dignitaries from Moose Jaw, Shaunavon and Swift Current attended the event.
