You will find lots of fun activities in and around Moose Jaw and area this weekend. The following list highlights some events you won’t want to miss out on.
Ogema Summer Fair
Head out to Ogema on Saturday for the Agricultural Society’s annual Fair Day celebration. Everything will kick off with a pancake breakfast from 7 to 9 a.m. A parade will start at 10, with most of the fun starting at 11. The day will include a kid’s rodeo, slo-pitch tournament, kiddie corner and petting zoo, a beer garden, live music, and a supper. Be sure to stop by!
Homegrown Farmer’s Market
Shop local at the Homegrown Farmer’s Market this Saturday. As usual, the market runs from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. along Langdon Crescent. You will find all kinds of tasty treats, homemade items, and fresh produce.
Summer GAX
The Moose Jaw Gamer’s Association will be busy this weekend. The group’s summer gaming expo, GAX, started on Friday at the Cultural Centre and will continue throughout the day on both Saturday and Sunday. The fun will go from 8 a.m. to midnight on Saturday and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday. For just $15 you can get access to a whole weekend of gaming. You can play board games, video games, or even games like Dungeons and Dragons. The price includes a pizza supper on Saturday. Proceeds from the event will be donated to the Moose Jaw & District Food Bank’s “Mighty Munchies” program.
Gardens for Guatemala
This weekend you can enjoy the beauty of six local gardens, all while supporting a great cause. On Saturday, the Gardens for Guatemala event will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Provided with a map, you will have an opportunity to tour local gardens and yards at your own pace. All proceeds from the event will support the Moose Jaw International Medical Mission’s next trip to Guatemala. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased at Hudson’s Boutique, Windmill Greenhouses, or Ellen’s on Main.
Free Fishing Weekend
This is Free Fishing Weekend in Saskatchewan. This provides anglers of all experience levels an opportunity to fish without purchasing an angling licence. As a bonus, there will be a Learn to Fish program at Buffalo Pound Provincial Park this Sunday. Learn from local fishing experts! The program will run from 10 a.m. to noon and from 1 to 3 p.m. at Maple Vale Beach. Equipment will be provided. Kids 12 and under must accompanied by an adult. Lifejackets are recommended.
Country Thunder
If you haven’t already, be sure to head out to Craven this weekend for the annual Country Thunder event. On Saturday you can find performers like Travis Tritt and Tim McGraw on the main stage, with Wonderland playing in the beer gardens. On Sunday The Road Hammers, Steve Earle, and Chris Stapleton will hit the main stage, while Saskatchewan’s own The Hunter Brothers will play in the beer gardens. Motif
Travel the world this weekend without leaving Moose Jaw. Motif, the city’s long-running multicultural festival, is back. On both Saturday and Sunday the entertainment will commence at 1 p.m. Of course, there will be lots of food vendors on site as well. Tickets are $8 each for one day or a three-day pass is available for $12. Kids 12 and under get in for free when accompanied by an adult. Parking in Happy Valley will cost $5 for a three-day pass or $2 for one day. The weekend will wrap up with the closing ceremonies at 7 p.m. on Sunday.
Marquis Carnival
Head out of town this weekend for the Marquis Town Carnival. The event will run on Saturday from 1 to 10 p.m. There will be kid’s activities, a BBQ, a beer garden, bake sale, pie contest, and more! Kayak for KidSport
Get out on the Moose Jaw River this weekend! On Sunday from 9:30 to 11 a.m. you can try kayaking in Wakamow. All equipment will be provided. The cost is $30/family or $20/adult. This includes breakfast. A corporate challenge will run from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. All funds raised by the event will go to KidSport Moose Jaw.
