You will find lots of fun activities in and around Moose Jaw and area this Canada Day long weekend. The following list highlights some events you won’t want to miss out on.
Homegrown Farmer’s Market
Shop local at the Homegrown Farmer’s Market this Saturday. As usual, the market runs from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. along Langdon Crescent. You will find all kinds of tasty treats, homemade items, and fresh produce.
Mortlach Saskatoon Berry Festival
Head down the Trans Canada on Saturday for the popular Mortlach Saskatoon Berry Festival. The fun gets started at 8 a.m. with a pancake breakfast. Pies will be sold from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be a trade show, live entertainment, a beer garden, children’s activities, a show and shine, along with a parade at 11 a.m. and a pie eating contest at 2 p.m. More information is available on Facebook.
Heritage Day at the Claybank Brick Plant
Feel like taking a road trip? Stop by the Claybank Brick Plant on Sunday for the annual Heritage Day event. There will be a narrated, self-guided tour, along with train rides, demonstrations, live music, food and drinks, and children’s activities. Heritage Day runs from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Admission is $10 per person or $25 per family. More information is available online.
Canada Day CabarEH
This year Tourism Moose Jaw has added a special Canada Day event for adults. Stop by the Notoriously Canada Day CabarEH at the Crushed Can on Sunday, beginning at 7 p.m. There will be drink specials, a best Canadian costume contest, and live music. A silver donation will be taken at the door, with proceedings supporting the fireworks.
Canada Day Festivities
There will be lots to see and do this holiday Monday.
As usual, the day will start off the pancake breakfast at the Cosmo Centre, beginning at 8 a.m. Entertainment will be provided. The fun then shifts over to Crescent Park, starting at 11, with entertainers performing on the amphitheatre stage. The park will also host the Living Library, which will showcase a variety of local groups like Control Jiu Jitsu, Moose Jaw Minor Football, the Homegrown Farmer’s Market, Dance Fitness with Kyra, and more.
The day will conclude with the popular fireworks display. Once again, the fireworks will emanate from Hamilton Flats. It is expected the show will start around 10:15 p.m.
Moose Jawg
Get up early to take in a Canada Day tradition. The 18th annual Moose Jawg will be held on Monday, starting at 8:15 a.m. The event will start off with the Runt Run, before transitioning to the 5 and 10K race. The Moose Jawg raises funds for the Moose Jaw Health Foundation. To date, the event has brought in over $134,000 for the MJHF.
Canada Day at the Western Development Museum
Stop by the Western Development Museum on Monday. There will be live demonstrations, ice cream making, crafts, games, and short films from the National Film Board. The K+S Potash Canada Shortline 101 will be running from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., weather permitting. Regular admission applies but is free for WDM members.
ParkArt
Stop by Crescent Park on Canada Day for the annual ParkArt show, which will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be a wide range of handcrafted and homemade treasures for purchase from approximately 50 different vendors. A barbecue lunch will be available, courtesy of the Moose Jaw Elks Lodge. There will be indoor art activities for kids, provided by the Moose Jaw Museum & Art Gallery. The event raises funds for the MJM&AG. Admission is $5 for adults, while kids 12 and under get in for free.
