Warriors set road wins record with win in Swift Current

Tribe hit new mark of 24-8-2-0 with 6-1 victory over the Broncos in Swift Current

It’s become rather redundant to say the Moose Jaw Warriors have overachieved this season, but at the same time the writing is on the wall.

The Warriors hit another team milestone on Friday in Swift Current with their 6-1 win over the Broncos, as they picked up their 24th road win of the season, setting a new franchise record at 24-8-2-0 and breaking the mark set last season.

The record is even more impressive when you take into account their home record sits a 15-12-4-2 with one fewer game played.

Justin Almeida continued his solid play as the post-season nears, scoring twice and adding two assists to lead the Warriors offensively. Daniil Stepanov and Josh Brook each had a goal and an assist for the Tribe, who built a 5-0 lead early in the third before Connor Horning scored a power play marker at 9:40 to break goaltender Adam Evanoff’s shutout bid.

Carson Denomie and Keenan Taphorn added single markers as the Warriors led 1-0 after the first and 4-0 through two.

Evanoff turned aside 21 shots to pick up the win in goal, the Warriors fired 21 at Swift Current’s Riley Lamb.

Mosoe Jaw was 1-for-8 in the power play, the Broncos went 1-for-6.

The Warrior are back in action for their final home game of the regular season tonight when they host the Broncos in the second game of the traditional home-and-home season-ending set with Swift Current.

The pre-game ceremonies will feature the Warriors’ Awards Night and the team will also have a shot at hitting the 40-win mark for the third straight season. They currently sit with a 39-20-6-2 and are fifth in the Eastern Conference, third in the East Division.
