Warriors prospects continue to shine at WHL Cup

Kelsey named player of the game for B.C., Ernst backstops Team Sask to close loss to Alberta
Kyle Kelsey and Team B.C. have a chance to close out the WHL Cup Under-16 round robin with a perfect record when they take the ice against Alberta tonight in Calgary.

Kelsey, the Moose Jaw Warriors’ fifth-round pick in the 2019 Western Hockey League Bantam Draft, was named B.C.’s player of the game after he turned aside 34 shots in their 5-2 win over Manitoba during Day 2 of the competition Thursday.
“I definitely thought my defencemen really helped me out there,” Kelsey said on WHL.ca. “They had my back.”

Denton Mateychuk, the Warriors first pick, 11th overall in the 2019 draft, continued his solid play at for Manitoba with another goal, giving him three for the tournament. Luke Robson, the Warriors’ ninth-round pick in 2019, was held off the scoresheet.

Moose Jaw AAA Warriors goaltender Dylan Ernst had a solid game in a losing effort as Team Saskatchewan fell 3-2 to Alberta.

Ernst urned aside 28 shots and was named Saskatchewan’s player of the game.

“I think I played pretty well. I couldn’t have done it without my teammates,” he said. “They helped me limit the shots to good outside shots.”

Carson Brisson, the Warriors 2019 fifth round pick, didn’t figure into the scoring for Alberta.

The tournament continues today as Saskatchewan faces Manitoba and B.C. takes on Alberta for first place after the round robin.
