The play of Moose Jaw Warriors defenceman Denton Mateychuk is getting noticed.
Earlier today, Mateychuk was one of six players named to the East Division Team of the Week presented by RE/MAX for the week ending April 11.
The 16-year-old product of Dominion City, Man. scored one goal and added three assists for four points in four games for the Warriors.
The other players named to the team include forwards Tristen Robins and Kyle Crnkovic of the Saskatoon Blades and Peyton Krebs of the Winnipeg ICE, defencemen Ryker Evans and goaltender Roddy Ross, both of the Regina Pats. Ross was also named the WHL’s Goalie of the Week.
Mateychuk was also named to Team Canada for the upcoming U18 tournament. He will replace Carson Lambos of the Winnipeg ICE, who is injured.
The tournament will start on April 26. The team is being helmed by former GM Alan Millar as Canada's director of player personnel. Matt Weninger, the Warriors' goalie coach, will also work with the team.
The Warriors’ next game will be against Brandon on Tuesday.
