Warriors lose in overtime in Lethbridge

Joseph scores twice in 5-4 OT defeat to Hurricanes

The Moose Jaw Warriors got off to a solid start but were unable to make it stick as they dropped a 5-4 decision in overtime to the Lethbridge Hurricanes in Western Hockey League action in Lethbridge on Saturday night

Less than a week after being shut-out at home by the Hurricanes, the Warriors wasted little time getting on the board in the rematch – Jadon Joseph scored his sixth of the season only 3:03 into the contest.

That lead would last only 51 seconds before Dylan Cozens scored to tie things up, but Eric Alarie would score on the power play at 11:14 and Owen Hardy would make it 3-1 Warriors a little under two minutes later.

The two-goal edge wouldn’t last through the period, though, as Oliver Okuliar scored with 3:01 left in the frame to pull Lethbridge within one.

Dino Kambeitz then tied the game 5:42 into the second and was followed exactly two minutes later by Noah Boyko to give the Hurricanes a 4-3 edge, only to see Joseph score his second of the game 1:55 later to once again knot things up.

Neither team scored in the third, setting the stage for Logan Barlage to net the game-winner 1:36 into overtime.

Daemon Hunt and Ryder Korczak added two assists each for the Warriors, Alex Cotton and Koletrane Wilson two helpers apiece for Lethbridge.

The shot clock was once again heavily in the Warriors’ opponents’ favour, as Bailey Brkin faced 40 shots on the night. Moose Jaw fired 24 at Lethbridge’s Carl Tetachuk.

The loss was the fifth straight for the Tribe, although they picked up a point for reaching overtime and improved to 5-5-1-0. The Hurricanes improved to 7-4-0-1.

The Warriors will now have the upcoming week off before hosting the Calgary Hitmen on Friday, Oct. 25. Game time is 7 p.m. at Mosaic Place.
