Vanier, Swift Current post dominant wins in high school girls soccer

Spirits roll to 12-0 victory over Tornadoes, Ardens defeat Weyburn 11-0 in action at Sunningdale Field
The Vanier Spirits and Swift Current Ardens appear to have their offences in high gear as the Moose Jaw high school girls soccer league season rolls along.

The Spirits picked up a 12-0 victory over the Peacock Tornadoes in league action at Sunningdale Field on Tuesday night, while the defending champion Ardens turned in a similarly commanding performance with an 11-0 win over the Weyburn Eagles.

The two contests followed similar patterns, too -—a four-goal opening half followed by an even more commanding performance after the break.

The Spirits had a pair of goals from Jaicee Maruska and single markers from Cadence Olson and Michaela DeCorby as they built their lead over Peacock. Maruska capped off her hat trick in the second half, while Autumn Hennenfent and Piper Olson each scored a pair to go along with single markers from DeCorby, Sheila Ruberwa and Rylan Morhart.

For Swift Current, it was a continuation of what has already been a dominant campaign. Jaycee Berggren scored twice for the 11-time defending league champions in the first half, Alexandria Metke and Bryn Haubrich each had single goals. Berggren scored three after the break to finish with five goals, Metke had her second marker while Olivia Koebel, Hailey Klimm and Dani Meyer each scored once.

Girls league play continues Saturday as Swift Current faces Central and Yorkton takes on Vanier at Sunningdale. Both games are at 11 a.m.
