They might be almost two years removed from winning the Saskatchewan High Schools Athletic Association 4A provincial championship, but it’s so far, so good for the Vanier Vikings in Moose Jaw high school boys volleyball action.

The two-time defending city champion Vikings -- winners of the league and provincial titles in 2018 and 2019 -- were back on the court on Tuesday night and found themselves in a bit of a battle with the Peacock Toilers before prevailing 3-1 (25-17, 20-25, 25-23, 25-14) at Peacock.

It was another close loss for the Toilers (0-2) in the early part of the season, after they also fell in four sets to the Central Cyclones last week.

Central themselves improved to 2-0 on the season with a 3-0 (25-5, 25-11, 25-11) win over the Riverview Royals (0-2) at Riverview.

The game between Briercrest Christian Academy (0-0) and Cornerstone Christian School Falcons (1-0) was postponed.

In girls league action, the Peacock Toilers improved to 2-0 with a 3-0 (25-10, 25-9, 25-18) victory over the Vanier Spirits, who fell to 0-2.

The Toilers were coming off a solid showing at the 16-team Winston Knoll tournament in Regina, where they lost in the semifinal to Weyburn before defeating Regina Riffel for bronze. Brooklyn Roney was named the game all-star in the medal-winning game, and Team Saskatchewan member Summer Okerstrom was named a tournament all-star.

Boys league action continues Thursday with Riverview at Vanier and Cornerstone at Central, with game times at 6:20 p.m. Girls play will see Vanier at Central at 8 p.m. Both the boys and girls games between Peacock and BCA have been postponed due to the ongoing outbreak at Briercrest College.
