Riders back in the win column, beat Argos 30-16

The Saskatchewan Roughriders have ended their two game losing streak, defeating the Toronto Argonauts 30-16 on Friday night.

Saskatchewan had dropped their previous two games against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers by scores of 23-8 and 33-9. Fortunately, the offence found a way to get going this time around, ending a two-game touchdown drought.

The Riders opened the scoring when quarterback Cody Fajardo ran the ball in for a touchdown, capping off a 78-yard opening drive. They led 18-3 at the half.

Fajardo completed 21 of 31 passes for 212 yards with two touchdowns and one interception. He also rushed for 58 yards. Argos QB Nick Arbuckle went 22 for 33 for 309 yards with two touchdowns and one interception. William Powell ran the ball for 122 yards for Saskatchewan, while rookie receiver Kian Schaffer-Baker had nine receptions for 99 yards and one touchdown. 

The Riders are now 4-2 on the season, good for second place in the West. Toronto is now 3-3 and in second place in the Eastern Division.

Saskatchewan’s next game is against the B.C. Lions on Friday, Sept. 24 in Vancouver. The previously beat the lions 33-29 in the season opener.
