Rash of watermain breaks in Moose Jaw

City work on-going to repair watermain breaks

The City of Moose Jaw has experienced a rash of watermain breaks that started on Friday, February 15, 2019.  City crews and contractors have been repairing the breaks since that time.  There have been 11 breaks with 7 repaired to date.  Two are scheduled for repair on February 22, 2019 and two that are not impacting property owners will be repaired the week of February 25, 2019.

Of major concern was an 18” transmission line on 14th Ave. N.W. and Caribou St. W. that crews were unable to isolate due to faulty or non-existent valves and incomplete construction records.  That repair had to be made while the line was under pressure.  There is water in the fields and areas by Yara Centre as the 18” transmission line was draining to that area since February 16, 2019 and could not be repaired until Thursday, February 21st.

Feb. 15 to 18, 2019 Breaks:

- 1000 block 7th Ave. NW – 2 breaks – both repaired

- 600 block Caribou St. W. – repaired

- 900 block Athabasca St. W. – repaired

- 14th Ave. NW & Caribou St W. – repaired

- Connaught Ave & MacDonald St. – not affecting property owners.  Will be repaired the week of February 25, 2019.

Tuesday, February 19, 2019 Breaks:

- 1100 block 3rd Ave NW

- 700 block 5th Ave NW

- 10th Ave SW & Vaughan St. – not affecting property owners.  Will be repaired the week of February 25, 2019.

Thursday, February 21/19 Break:

- 6th & Oxford St W

Affected property owners have been notified by letter as the breaks occur and the City thanks them for their patience and understanding.
