PHA winless at CSSHL championship tournament

Cougars fall 5-0 to Rink Hockey Academy, 2-0 to OHA Edmonton in first two round robin games in Penticton

The Prairie Hockey Academy Cougars haven’t had a lot of luck in their first appearance at the Canadian Sports School Hockey League Elite 15 championship tournament.

The fifth-seed heading into the eight-team event, the Cougars dropped a 5-0 decision to Winnipeg’s Rink Hockey Academy on Wednesday before falling 2-0 to OHA Edmonton in their lone game Thursday at the event in Penticton.

As a result, PHA finds themselves with an 0-2 record and no way of finishing in the top two to advance to the playoff round.

In their opening game, the Cougars found themselves trailing 3-0 after the first period and 4-0 through two. Nathan Airey made 31 saves in the loss, PHA fired 30 at Rink Academy.

Things were far closer against Edmonton, as OHA scored with two minutes left in the second period, and that marker would stand as the only of regulation until they added an empty netter with 1:18 left in the game.

Chase Coward turned aside 27 shots for the Cougars, PHA had 34 shots on Edmonton.

PHA closes out their tournament appearance tonight against Burnaby (2-0).
