Moose Jaw teams advance to soccer provincial finals

Central boys, Vanier girls to play for respective soccer championships
If everything goes according to plan, Moose Jaw will have a pair of high school soccer championships banners to hang after Saturday afternoon.

Both the Central Cyclones and Vanier Spirits advanced to their respective provincial finals on Friday, with the Cyclones doing so on their home turf.

Third-ranked Central opened their quest for a 4A boys championship with a 3-2 victory over Se Se Wa Hum at Yara Centre Field and will now face Regina Luther for gold on Saturday. The Lions defeated Humboldt 3-1 in their semifinal.

Game time is 2 p.m. at Yara Centre East.

At the 4A girls championships in Yorkton, the second-seeded Spirits rolled to a comfortable 4-1 victory over Martensville. Top-seeded Se Se Wa Hum took a 2-1 win over Yorkton Sacred Heart in the other semifinal, and the two team will also play for gold at 2 p.m. Saturday.

The news wasn’t as good for Swift Current in the 5A boys and girls tournaments. The boys dropped a 3-1 decision to Saskatoon St. Joseph in their semifinal, the girls fell 1-0 to Saskatoon Holy Cross in their semi. Both 5A finals will be all Saskatoon affairs as Holy Cross takes on St. Joseph for the girls title and St. Joseph faces Centennial in the boys gold medal game.
