First-place Canucks split doubleheader with White Butte in 13U AAA action

White Butte takes 9-7 win in opener, Canucks rally late for 10-5 victory in rematch

The Moose Jaw Canucks ran into a little bit of ‘what’s good for the goose is good for the gander’ in Baseball Regina 13U AAA league action on Sunday afternoon.

The Canucks saw a 6-2 lead slip away late in a 9-7 loss to the White Butte Broncos to open a doubleheader on Sunday but were able to follow with a late comeback of their own in the rematch, taking a 10-5 victory.

Moose Jaw improved to 10-5-1 with the split and continue to hold down first place, a half game ahead of the Broncos. The Canucks are back in action Tuesday night when they host the Regina White Sox.

White Butte 9, Canucks 7

After the Canucks built their early lead, the Broncos were able to rally with a three-run fourth inning before tacking on two more in the fifth to tie the game. There the score remained until White Butte added a pair of runs in the seventh to secure the win.

Rylan Caplette-Tarrant had a 2-for-3 showing that included a run batted in, while Kale Pratte and Riley Cushway crossed the plate twice each. Max Simmons had one hit but racked up three RBI in the contest.

Simmons allowed two runs on two hits in an inning of work, while Caplette-Tarrant surrendered five runs – two earned -- and struck out five over four innings. Owen Varjassy closed things out, allowing two runs on three hits and striking out two.

Canucks 10, White Butte 5

Trailing 4-2 in the fourth, the Canucks scored three runs to take the lead, tacked on another two in the fifth for a 7-5 edge and closed things out with a three-run sixth to earn the win.

Simmons and Gerritt Gulutzan were each 2-for-3 with two runs scored while Pratt finished the contest 2-for-3 with three RBI. Cameron Beisal also crossed the plate twice, Wesley Olson was 2-for-3 with a run and a RBI, Caplette-Tarrant knocked in a pair.|

Owen Csada got the start, allowing two runs on a hit and striking out two before giving way to Beisal, who went three innings and surrendered two runs on five hits while striking out five. Gulutzan finished off the win, allowing a run on three hits and striking out four.
