A national economic organization has given the City of Moose Jaw three awards for its “Get A Life” Campaign that it launched in 2022.

The Economic Developers Association of Canada (EDAC) announced its 2023 Marketing Canada award winners at its annual conference from Oct. 2-4 in Summerside, Prince Edward Island.

The City of Moose Jaw’s campaign to promote quality of life advantages here — such as low cost of housing, short commutes, and family-friendly community — was recognized in the $200,000 and under budget category.

The city won two awards:

  • Best Marketing Campaign: The campaign launched on July 28, 2022, at the Regina International Airport and was followed by a testimonial video/social media campaign featuring Moose Javians explaining the lifestyle benefits they “get” by living in Canada’s Most Notorious City.

The EDAC judges “were impressed by this thorough, consistent, fun and successful campaign.”

  • Best Promotional Item: As part of the “Get A Life” campaign, the city worked with Homefield Marketing to create Get A Life cereal.

The boxes contained the campaign slogan on the front and a brief promotional paragraph on the back, with a QR code to the Get A Life landing page. The side of the boxes featured the list of “Notoriously Nutritious” ingredients people find in Moose Jaw.

EDAC judges called the cereal boxes “a first” and a “fun, effective idea.”

The Get A Life cereal was rewarded further with a Cup Contender award.

EDAC chooses the best overall submission from each budget category to contend for its top overall prize— the EDAC Cup. The EDAC Cup was awarded to the City of Vaughn in Ontario for its Health Care Precinct publication.

“It’s thrilling to be recognized at a national level,” said Jim Dixon, manager of economic development. “The campaign is not only a testament to the true quality of life advantages we have in Moose Jaw, but a testament to the residents and businesses that supported the Get A Life campaign at the launch and in the videos. These awards wouldn’t have happened without their involvement.”

The City of Moose Jaw previously won EDAC Marketing Awards in 2020 for COVID-19 recovery initiatives and the “Canada’s Most Notorious City” branding initiative, and in 2019 for promotion and marketing of the “Moose War” with Norway.
