Bantam Mavericks advance to SFHL league final

Moose Jaw takes 3-0 victory over Parkland in third and deciding game of SFHL South Division final

The Moose Jaw Mavericks wanted nothing to do with overtime in the third and deciding game of their Saskatchewan Female Hockey League South Division Bantam championship final.

After going to double OT against the Parkland Fire in their previous two games – including their first loss of the season in league play on Friday – finishing things off in regulation was of major interest. That didn’t mean things were any less close, though.

Ember Dusomme scored on the power play in the second period and Eowyn Stokes added a shorthanded marker midway through the third as the Mavericks went on to a 3-0 win over Parkland at Red Knight Arena on Sunday.

The victory gave Moose Jaw a two-games-to-one win in the series.

Jasmine Kohl added an empty net goal and an assist for the Mavericks, while Brooke Archer picked up the shutout in goal.

The Mavericks now advance to the SFHL league championship final in a battle of the only two unbeaten teams in the regular season – both they and their opponents, the Turtleford-based Northwest Sharks, posted 22-0-0 records to finish comfortably in first place.

Dates and venues for the series have yet to be determined.
