MARCUS HURLBURT
1979 – 2021

Sadly, Marcus Hurlburt of Moose Jaw, aged 41, passed away on May 27, 2021 from complications of diabetes. Marcus was born in Vancouver on October 30, 1979 and came to Moose Jaw with his parents as an infant. He lived most of his life in that city. Often a solitary child, Marcus was both imaginative and adventurous, spending many happy hours drawing very intricate pictures, writing stories, and also exploring the outdoors on his bike. This spirit carried on into his adult life. Marcus enjoyed playing and modifying computer games, reading, and watching movies, particularly science fiction and action adventure. He also continued to range far and wide in the Moose Jaw area and at Lake Diefenbaker on foot, by bicycle, and in his kayak, often accompanied by his dog Chloe. Marcus was devoted to his grandparents, Rose and Leslie Hurlburt. He frequented their home in Moose Jaw and also the cottage at Mistusinne (Lake Diefenbaker) and later regularly visited Rose in Saskatoon. Marcus worked for several Moose Jaw companies as a plumber’s helper, cleaner, and handyman. Marcus began working at the Grant Hall Hotel in its renovation phase  When it opened he continued employment as a maintenance worker/caretaker. He took great pride in the Grant Hall Hotel. Marcus particularly appreciated the concern and support from Verna Alford and Richard Schneider and others of Verna’s family, including brothers Erwin Beug and wife Elaine, Alvin Beug and wife Anika, and sisters Karen Chernesky and Delilah Schwab and husband Kelly when Verna and family owned the hotel. He went far beyond what his duties called for and was always ready, willing, and available to assist there in any way possible. Marcus will be sorely missed. He was predeceased by his mother Maxwell Lee McMillan and grandfather Leslie Hurlburt. Marcus is survived by his father Robert Hurlburt (Margaret Campbell), grandmother Rose Hurlburt, aunts LeeAnne Hurlburt (Bernie Volk), Edna Little, and Eleanor Selin, cousin Reave MacLeod, other extended family, and his cat BC. A memorial service for close family and friends was held on June 10 with interment following at the Caron cemetery. In living memory of Marcus, a memorial planting will be made by Jones-Parkview Funeral Services. Please sign the memorial register at website: www.jonesparkview.com (Obituaries).
