Frank Joseph Gierl

Frank Joseph Gierl passed away peacefully with family by his side on Tuesday, September 10, 2019 at Extendicare Moose Jaw.  Frank was predeceased by his parents and by his brother Tony. Beloved husband of Charlotte for over 38 years; loving father of Tracy Crooks (Bruce), Trevor (Sachi Clark), Tara Bergdahl (James), stepfather of Noramay Isaac (Ron) and Ada King (George); cherished grandfather of 9, great-grandfather of 5. He will be lovingly missed by his brother John (Anne), and sisters Rosemarie (Steve deceased) and Joan (Terry deceased), and by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Frank was born on February 27, 1935 on the family farm near Claybank to Cecilia and Frank Sr. Gierl.  He was raised on the farm and attended his first school in Claybank, but later on attended Peacock Technical School in Moose Jaw. After his formal education, he moved permanently to Moose Jaw in 1951. Frank was a very talented carpenter, plumber, painter and tradesman.  Over the years he was involved in building many homes in around Moose Jaw.  With a strong acumen for business, he eventually ran his own business managing many rental properties.  He was known as a man of integrity and earned the trust of many. Although Frank was raised Catholic, he started attending the First Free Methodist Church on Hochelaga St. West with Charlotte in the early 80's.  He was baptized shortly after and was eventually asked to be a Lead Usher.  He was an avid Roughrider fan, and liked to stay up to date with current events on the news. He was a member and past president of the Moose Jaw Optimist Club.  He enjoyed coffee out with the guys at Tim Hortons, but always a gentleman at heart, he would silently disappear if the joking became too coarse. A Memorial Tea will be held in the Lounge at Parkview Funeral Chapel, 474 Hochelaga St. West, Moose Jaw, on Monday, September 16, 2019 at 1:00 pm.  All are welcome. In recognition of Frank’s love and care for animals, memorial donations may be made to the Moose Jaw Humane Society, 1755 Stadacona St. W, Moose Jaw, SK, S6H 0N0 or to Running Wild Rescue Moose Jaw 209 9th Ave. NW, Moose Jaw, SK, S6H 4H2.  In living memory of Frank, a memorial tree planting will be made by Jones-Parkview Funeral Services. Please see our online book of condolences at www.parkviewfuneralchapel.ca and www.wjjonesandson.com (Obituaries). Blair Scott, Funeral Director.
