Booker Cornea passed away peacefully on Monday, April 22nd, 2019 surrounded by his family.

Booker was born near Horizon, SK on April 17th, 1927 and lived most of his adult life in the Drinkwater/Briercrest district.

He was predeceased by his parents, John and Maria (née: Bars) and his brothers, John and Peter Cornea.

Booker is survived by the mother of his children, Agnes Cornea (née: Schenher); sisters, Mary (Earle) Ruggles and Phyllis (Ivan) Chubb; sisters-in-law, Jean and Donna Cornea; his five children: Kenneth (Tracy) Cornea, Phyllis (Kim) Hoffman, Patricia (Kevin) McCaig, Arnold (Nichole) Cornea, and Michelle (Raymond) LeHeiget; his 12 grandchildren: Booker (Roberta Kotowich) Cornea, Natasha Cornea, Daniel (Michele Dyck) McCaig, Chris (Cara Cooper) McCaig, Nicholas (Heather) McCaig, Zane McCaig, Nicholas (Jessie) Cornea, Anastasia Cornea, Dante Cornea, Jean LeHeiget, Stephane LeHeiget, and Daniel LeHeiget; and 5 great grandchildren.

Booker was a trained welder, farmer and commercial pilot, and a self-trained machinist, carpenter, engineer, designer, plumber, fabricator, philosopher, manager, horticulturist and problem solver.  His personality was defined by his early childhood growing up on a farm during the Great Depression.  He became a journeyman welder, a trade he practiced through the war years in Prince Rupert, BC and Montreal, QC.  After World War II he moved back to Saskatchewan and began farming full time.  He had an insatiable appetite for reading (always non-fiction), often finding himself waking from a slumber in his favourite chair slouched over a biography, history book, or some kind of technical manual.  He drank a pot of tea every day, and ate copious amounts of fresh fruits, vegetables, peanuts and sunflower seeds.  Booker loved grain farming, flying, billiards, anything mechanical and especially dancing.  He had a fondness for music of almost every genre and always appreciated a good rhythm and pleasing vocals.  Booker spent many winters in Mesa, AZ and often said it wouldn’t bother him if he never saw another snowflake.  His memory will live on with his family, friends and the many lives he touched.

The family would like to thank the medical staff at Dr. F.H. Wigmore Regional and Regina General Hospitals for the excellent care Booker received.  The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, April 27th, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. in Moose Jaw Funeral Home.  Dave Foley will officiate and a private family interment will take place in Sunset Cemetery.  As an expression of sympathy, donations in Booker’s name may be made to Crohn's and Colitis Canada, PO Box 28074 RPO Westgate, Saskatoon, SK S7M 5V8 or STARS Air Ambulance, 2640 Airport Road, Regina, SK S4W 1A3.  Arrangements are entrusted to Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane.  Todd Sjoberg, Funeral Director 306-693-4550 www.moosejawfuneralhome.com
