IDA MAE BRYANT
February 22nd, 1941 – June 5th, 2025
With heavy hearts and deep gratitude for a life so richly lived, we announce the passing of Ida Mae Bryant (née: Wilson), who left us peacefully on Thursday, June 5th, 2025, at the age of 84 years. A woman whose humour and presence could brighten any room, Ida Mae left an indelible mark on everyone fortunate enough to know her.
Born on February 22nd, 1941, in Arcola, Saskatchewan, just outside of Carlyle, Ida was raised alongside her siblings on the family farm by their devoted parents, Thomas and Mina Wilson. Life on the prairies taught her the value of hard work, perseverance, and humility — qualities she carried throughout her life and passed on to her family.
Ida married Bert Bryant on September 5th, 1959, in Carlyle, Saskatchewan. Together, they settled in Moose Jaw, where they raised their three beloved sons — Kelly, Jeff and Gary. As a mother, she was fiercely loving, endlessly supportive, and always present. She balanced her family life with a long and respected career as billing administrator for C&E Mechanical.
A lifelong lover of games and competition, Ida was a talented curler who proudly represented Team Saskatchewan at the Canadian Mixed Nationals in Thunder Bay, Ontario. She was also a highly accomplished bridge player, earning the rare and distinguished title of Lifetime Bridge Master. Whether on the ice or at the card table, she brought skill, grace, and genuine joy — and made friends wherever she went.
Tragically, Ida became a widow on May 14th, 1996, after losing Bert to cancer. Though those years were difficult, her spirit remained strong and her heart open. In time, she reconnected with long-time friend Don MacDonald, whom she had originally met through the bridge community. Their friendship blossomed into a deep and enduring love, and on September 2nd, 2018 they married. Together, Ida and Don embarked on a new chapter full of travel, companionship, and shared laughter. Don became not only a cherished partner to her, but also a beloved grandfather figure and mentor to her sons.
Together, Ida and Don explored the world, created treasured memories, and brought joy to all who knew them. Her life was rich with deep relationships, meaningful adventures, and unwavering kindness.
She was predeceased by her parents, Thomas and Mina Wilson; her beloved first husband, Bert Bryant; sister, Margaret Rutten; stepson, Bradley MacDonald; and stepdaughter, Karen Rodenbush. Ida is survived by her loving husband, Don MacDonald; brother, Jimmy Wilson (Audrey); sons: Kelly Bryant (Anita), Jeff Bryant (Arla), and Gary Bryant (Trish); stepdaughter, Jan Walker (Paul); and stepson, Cory MacDonald. She was proud grandmother to David (Brandi), Melissa (Trevor), Colby (Cassidy), Josh, Jordan, Brody (Anna), Dalton (Sammi) and Luke, and a cherished great-grandmother to Jace, Josie, Parker and Nash. Ida also leaves behind numerous step-grandchildren and countless friends who were touched by her warmth, generosity and unshakable positivity.
Ida’s family would like to say a special thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff at the Moose Jaw Dr. F.H. Wigmore Regional Hospital. Like so many others, they seemed to take a special liking to Ida, and their compassion, kindness, and attentive care meant the world to her and her loved ones.
A Celebration of Ida’s life will be held at a later date in Carlyle, Saskatchewan where Ida will be reunited with Bert at their final resting place.
Ida Mae Bryant made life brighter. Whether you met her once or knew her for a lifetime, she left you better than she found you. Her impact is immeasurable, her legacy everlasting, and she will be deeply missed by all.
