Roger Louis Arendt

October 10, 1949 – July 26, 2025

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our father, grandpa, brother, uncle, and dear friend, Roger Louis Arendt, after a lengthy illness. Roger passed away peacefully on July 26, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones.

He was predeceased by his parents, Mildred Beatrice Wiley and Francis Roy Arendt, and his brothers, Gerry Arendt and Bud Arendt.

Roger was born on October 10, 1949, the youngest of four children. The family lived on a farm near Ravenscrag until moving to Eastend in 1959. Roger attended school in Eastend, graduating in 1967. He continued his studies at the University of Saskatchewan, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Laws, convocating in 1974.

He completed his legal articles with Grayson and Company in Moose Jaw and was called to the bar in 1975. Roger distinguished himself in the legal profession, ultimately becoming a senior partner at the firm where he practiced for many years.

In recent years, Roger found joy in spending time with his children and grandchildren, and his faithful feline companion, Q.C. He cherished nightly phone calls and frequent visits with his beloved “Sis.” He also enjoyed working in his garage—metalworking, blacksmithing—and escaping the Saskatchewan winters whenever he could.

Roger will be fondly remembered for his love of early morning garage sales (always showing up early to get the best deals), his incredible skill for turning metal into art with his welder and forge, and his famously organized collection of tools—each in its original box, complete with the original receipt taped to the outside.

In his younger years, Roger spent countless hours fishing in the Frenchman River and swimming at the old swimming hole in Eastend—memories that remained close to his heart.

He is survived by his former wife, Trish (Martynook), and his sons; Justin (Monica) of Humboldt, and their children Luke and Alexis and Aaron (Natalie) of Regina, and their children Freya and Presea.

He is also survived by his sister, Sis Erickson of Medicine Hat, Alberta; his stepdaughters, Kendra (Jon) and their children Anneli and Trewin; and Alana, and her children Callum and Fiona, and their mother Joline.

Roger will be deeply missed by his longtime colleagues, and his friends Morley, Ralph,  George, and many others who shared in his warmth, wit, humour, and spirited debates.

The family extends their deepest gratitude to Drs. Ho, Sanderson, and Pilon, and the compassionate Surgical Ward and ICU staff for the exceptional care Roger received in Moose Jaw. Special thanks to Notalie and all the wonderful caregivers at West Park Crossing for their kindness and care in his final years.

A reception tea in celebration of Roger’s life will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at the W.J. Jones & Son Reception Centre, 474 Hochelaga St W, Moose Jaw.  All are welcome.

In lieu of flowers or other tributes, please consider donating to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada in Roger’s memory.
