October 16th, 1936 – April 23rd, 2019

Jean Elizabeth Bender, aged 82 years of Rouleau, SK passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, April 23rd, 2019 at the Dr. F.H. Wigmore Regional Hospital in Moose Jaw, SK. 

She was predeceased by her husband, Art Bender; mother, Ida May; father, Wilfred Roe; brothers: Roy (Ruth) Roe, Russ (Marjorie) Roe, Norman Roe, Tom Roe, Joe Roe, Charlie Roe, and Billie Roe; sister-in-law, Marlene Roe; brother-in-law, Douglas Langdon; sons-in-law: Ben Amosah, Alain Sauve, and Keith Tatum; grandson, Kirby Mealing; and great-grandchildren, Terell Amosah and Deon Amosah. 

Jean is survived by her children: Terry (Edith), Brenda, Victor, Susan (Richard), Patricia, Douglas (Jan), and Jacqueline; 20 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren; brother, Bruce Roe; sister, Marg Langdon; brother, Ernie Roe (Joan); and sister-in-law, Noreen Roe. 

Jean’s first love was all her family.  She started working at a very early age on the family farm in Orilla, ON in the tobacco fields, and at 18 years of age Jean and Art were married.  For many years, Jean and Art worked together raising their 7 children and building many businesses including farming, trucking, restaurant, and a Chrysler dealership.  Jean loved to cook, knit and sew, and made 35 quilts in her last year.  Her faithful sidekick Cuddles left her only a few short weeks ago. 

A Celebration of Jean’s Life will be held on Thursday, May 2nd, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. in Moose Jaw Funeral Home.  Brenda and Dennis Boyce will officiate and a private family interment will take place at Hillcrest Cemetery in Avonlea, SK.  As an expression of sympathy, donations in Jean’s name may be made to a charity of one’s choice.  Arrangements are entrusted to Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane.  Michelle Surtees, Funeral Director 306-693-4550 www.moosejawfuneralhome.com
