CALGARY — The Regina Pats have won the Western Hockey League's draft lottery. The Pats now get the No. 1 selection in the league's bantam draft on April 22.

MONTREAL — The Montreal Canadians have signed defenceman Gustav Olofsson to a one-year, two-way contract. The deal pays Olofsson US$750,000 in the NHL and $250,000 in the AHL, with a $350,000 guaranteed salary.

Canadian international lock Brett Beukeboom, captain of England's Cornish Pirates, has announced his retirement from rugby. The Pirates, who play in England's second-tier Championship, said the 29-year-old from Lindsay, Ont.

GENEVA — A day after officially postponing the Tokyo Olympics, IOC president Thomas Bach invoked comments by President Donald Trump to defend himself from criticism on Wednesday.

The Kontinental Hockey League has given up on trying to reschedule its playoffs and cancelled the remainder of the season. The Russia-based KHL is widely considered to be the strongest league outside the NHL.
