More wins for Bantam, Midget Mustangs

Midget squad posts three wins in league action, Bantams post close win Saturday
The Moose Jaw Mustangs continued to find success in recent  South Saskatchewan Lacrosse League action, with the organization’s two older teams hitting the win column three times during the week.

For the Midget Mustangs, it was a 13-3 win over the Regina Snipers and 7-2 victory against the Swift Current Rampage; the Bantam Mustangs found things a little closer as they battled to a 4-2 win over the Rampage.

Midget Mustangs 13, Snipers 3

The Mustangs opened the week with a flourish, scoring six first period goals and extending their lead to 9-1 through two periods.

Atley Calvert led the assault with five goals and an assist, while Caelan Fitzpatrick scored twice and added a pair of helpers. Jake Williams and Max Coulson each had a goal and an assist; Kayde Shymko, Brennan Watterson, Jacob Gyman and Ethan Peters all had single markers. Kael Nichols picked up two assists.

Bryden Kerr and Mac Simpson were in goal.

Midget Mustangs 7, Snipers 2

Calvert scored twice and added two helpers as the Mustangs picked up the win in Regina.

Kaleb Mercer, Bryden Bell, Fitzpatrick, Nichols and Watterson had one goal each as the Mustangs once again showed their offensive balance.

Kerr was in goal for the victory.

The Midget Mustangs are back in action June 10 when the take on Estevan in a neutral site game in Bienfait.

Bantam Mustangs 4, Rampage 2

The traditionally slow-starting Mustangs got off to a fast start in Swift Current and ended up almost needing every one of those goals in the close win.

Moose Jaw took a 3-1 lead out of the first period and built their edge to 4-1 with the only goal of the second. Swift Current didn’t score their second goal of the game until only six seconds remained in the third.

Carter Michaluk had a pair of goals for the Mustangs, Rowan Calvert scored once and added a pair of helpers. Davin Williams had their other marker.

The Bantam Mustangs are back on the floor Tuesday when they host Regina (7:30 p.m., Mosaic Place).
