Moose Jaw’s Ingalls shines in World Junior Lacrosse indoor championship

Former Mustangs standout scores four goals in lopsided win over Australia
Moose Jaw’s Quinn Ingalls made the most of his first chance to take the floor with Team Canada at the World Junior Indoor Lacrosse championship Tuesday in Mississauga, Ont.

The 19-year-old second-year national team veteran scored four goals as Canada rolled to a 24-4 victory over Australia in their opening contest.

Ingalls – who plays for the Saskatchewan SWAT in the Rocky Mountain Junior Lacrosse League – was a member of Team Canada for their gold medal win in Saskatoon last season but was a healthy scratch for all three games.

That made Ingalls’ national team appearance on Tuesday his first, and after being held off the scoresheet as Canada built a 4-2 lead in the first quarter, he scored his first goal in international play with 6:03 remaining in the second to put his team ahead 9-2.

The rout was on from there, with Ingalls scoring Canada’s 18th and 19th goals with 2:47 and 30 seconds remaining in the third quarter before tacking on their final goal with 1:47 remaining in the game for his fourth marker.

Welland, Ont.’s Sam Leclair led Canada with six goals and three assists.

In other early round robin games, Poland defeated the United States 20-14, Australia edged Israel 8-7 and Team Iroquois edged the U.S. 20-19.

Team Canada returns to action Thursday night against Israel, with the semifinals on Saturday and championship game Sunday.
