Lorraine Arguin split her two games at the SaskCurl senior women’s provincial championship in Rosetown on Thursday.

Arguin and her rink of third Donda lee Deis, second Shelly Urquhart and lead Connie Fritzler won their opening game 8-1 over Swift Current’s Connie Rayner before dropping a 6-3 decision to Yorkton’s Cathy Inglis in the evening draw.

Arguin now sits at 3-1 in the round robin standings, tied for second place with Saskatoon’s Sherry Anderson.

Against Rayner, Arguin wasted little time, needing only four ends to secure the commanding win. The Moose Jaw Ford Curling Centre foursome opened with a steal of three in the first end and after giving up a single point, added three more in the third and a steal of two in the fourth to bring things to an early end.

Arguin found things far closer against Inglis, where she trailed 2-0 after two ends but picked up single points the next two frames to tie things up. Inglis’ deuce in the fifth end proved to be the difference, though, as after holding Arguin to one in the sixth she was able to score single points in the seventh and eighth to take a 6-3 win.

Next up for the local foursome is Saskatoon’s Peggy Fernquist (1-3) in today’s afternoon draw followed by a marquee match-up in the evening against Wadena’s Delores Syrota.
