Despite trailing much of the contest, the Warriors found a way to tie things up in the third period before surrendering the game-winning goal with 2:40 remaining and dropping a 5-4 decision to the Maulers.
Yorkton took a 2-0 lead into the later stages of the second period when Austin Woodley scored Moose Jaw’s first goal of the pre-season with 2:49 remaining in the frame.
That set the stage for one of the most back-and-forth periods of hockey in recent memory.
Yorkton scored on the power play only 32 seconds into the third to take two-goal lead, but Brady Wilson and Jake Briltz scored just over two minutes apart midway through the frame to tie things up.
The 3-3 draw lasted only 12 seconds, though, as Roper Blanchard scored to give Yorkton back the lead. Sure enough, 24 seconds later, the Warriors’ Jackson Allan would once again tie things up, with his marker coming with 8:23 to play.
There things remained until Naton Miller scored the game-winner as time ran down.
Allan also had an assist in the contest, while Wyatt LaCoste picked up two helpers.
Ryan Bain turned aside 19 shots in taking the loss, the Warriors had 24 shots on Yorkton’s John Macpherson.
The Warriors continue their pre-season on Friday, Sept. 17 when they host the Swift Current Legionnaires. Game time is 7 p.m. at Mosaic Place.
