Your guide to the weekend for Sept. 7-8

You will find lots of fun activities in and around Moose Jaw and area this weekend. The following list highlights some events you won’t want to miss out on.

Homegrown Farmer’s Market

Shop local at the Homegrown Farmer’s Market this Saturday. As usual, the market runs from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. along Langdon Crescent. You will find all kinds of tasty treats, homemade items, and fresh produce. Be mindful of restricted access, due to construction.

This ‘n That Fall Market

Stop by the market at First Free Methodist Church on Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. There will be lots of great items, including handmade crafts and rummage sale items. There will also be a bake table.

Sukanen Threshing Bee

The Sukanen Ship Pioneer Village & Museum will host its 50th annual Threshing Bee on Saturday and Sunday. The fun will start with a pancake breakfast on both days from 8 to 10 a.m. Throughout the weekend there will be a wide variety of activities and demonstrations, including binding, ploughing, threshing, a car parade, and an antique tractor pull. An official ceremony with remarks will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. The grand opening of the IHC building will take place at 11 a.m. on Saturday. There will also be a Saturday night dance and a Sunday morning church service. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for kids between the ages of six and 15. Kids under six get in for free. 

Fall into Fabric

Quilters and crafters rejoice, as the annual Fall into Fabric sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday at Zion United Church. There will be lots of fabric, yarn, knitting needles, and scrapbook supplies available at great prices. Proceeds will support Hunger in Moose Jaw.

Tai Chi Open House

Want to learn more about tai chi, or simply give it a try? The Fung Loy Kok Taoist Tai Chi group will hold an open house in the downstairs social hall at St. Andrew’s United Church from 11 a.m. to noon on Saturday. Please wear indoor non-marking shoes. For more information, visit www.taoist.org. 

Parkinson SuperWalk

Get out and enjoy the fresh air this weekend, all while supporting a great cause. The annual Parkinson SuperWalk will be held on Saturday in Wakamow. Registration starts at noon, with the walk commencing at 1 p.m. Funds will support Parkinson Canada.

Art Opening

The youth chapter of Journey 2 Hope has created an art exhibit that is currently on display at the Cultural Centre. The official opening for “Hope Is…” will be held on Saturday at 1 p.m. 

Moose Jaw Warriors Pre-season Game

The WHL season is right around the corner, and teams are already in the midst of the preseason. The Warriors will take on the Prince Albert Raiders on Saturday at Mosaic Place. Game time is 7 p.m. Tickets are available at the Mosaic Place box office.

Megan Nash at the Cultural Centre

Moose Jaw’s Megan Nash will perform at the Cultural Centre this weekend, with special guests Scotch and Water. The show starts at 8 p.m. at the Mae Wilson Theatre. Tickets are still available and are just $25, plus service charges. Tickets are available at the Cultural Centre box office.

Grandparents Day at the Western Development Museum

Celebrate Grandparents Day at the Western Development Museum this weekend. Stop by the museum between 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday. You can pick up and fill out a self-led activity booklet. Regular museum admission applies. Free for WDM members.

Co-op Kids Carnival

The Moose Jaw Co-op will hold its popular Kids Carnival on Sunday from 12 to 4 p.m. in the Co-op Marketplace parking lot. There will be carnival games, a petting zoo, a bouncy castle, and the Moose Jaw Warriors will be on hand with their mini rink. Everything is priced at just $1.
