You will find lots of fun activities in and around Moose Jaw and area this weekend. The following list highlights some events you won’t want to miss out on.

Homegrown Farmer’s Market

Shop local at the Homegrown Farmer’s Market this Saturday. As usual, the market runs from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. along Langdon Crescent. You will find all kinds of tasty treats, homemade items, and fresh produce. Be mindful of restricted access, due to construction.

Farmer’s Market for Charity

Local gardeners have been flexing their green thumbs all summer long, and now you can reap the benefits. The annual Farmer’s Market for Charity will be hosted by Yara Community Gardens on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Home Street location. There will be lots of pesticide-free produce, preserves, homemade baking, and a pancake breakfast courtesy of Riverside Mission. Proceeds will support both the Community Gardens program and Riverside Mission.

Tai Chi at the Moose Jaw Public Library

Get ready to relax this weekend. The Moose Jaw Chinese Association and the Moose Jaw Public Library will offer its tai chi program on Saturday at 10 a.m. Please note the program has moved indoors and can be found in the South Meeting Room on the second floor of the library. This is a drop-in program. Please wear comfortable clothing. 

Youth Rodeo 

A rodeo for kids age 13 and under will be held on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Twin Lakes Ranch. Each youth will receive a prize. A concession will be available. It is sure to be a fun-filled day! The ranch is located 10 km east of Moose Jaw. Visit https://tlrm.net/ for more information.

Activities at Buffalo Pound Provincial Park

Head out to Buffalo Pound Provincial Park this weekend for several fun activities. First, on Saturday you can try out Knockerball from 12 to 5 p.m. at the Maple Vale Day Use Area. These are large, inflatable balls you get to roll around inside. Participants must be accompanied by an adult and waivers must be signed. Cost is $5 for five minutes, $10 for 10 minutes, and $20 for 30 minutes.

Next, the Learn to Canoe program will be held on Saturday from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Maple Vale Beach. Please note participants under the age of 13 must have a parent or guardian present. 

On Sunday you can find and identify insects and plants that live in the lake during the Boardwalk Bug Brigade program at the Nicolle Flats Nature Area from 2 to 3 p.m. 

Finally, learn how to cook over a campfire at Pinecone Place on Sunday from 7 to 8 p.m.

Spring Valley Family Fun Day

Drive out to Spring Valley this weekend for Family Fun Day! There will be old-fashioned games, food, and family entertainment. There will be bouncy castles, face painting, and the Dusty Old Farmers will perform. A dance will follow in the evening. The fun starts at 1 p.m. on Saturday.

Captain Marvel Screening

Visit the Moose Jaw Public Library theatre on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. for a screening of the hit film, Captain Marvel. The event is free of charge and all ages are welcome. 

Soap Box Races

The Moose Jaw Soap Box Racing Association will hold their annual Soap Box Derby, beginning at 10 a.m. on Sunday. They day will be filled with dozens of kids racing down Alder Avenue in their cars. Get out to support the kids, or just stop by to learn more about the hobby!

Save the Bees

The Moose Jaw Nature Society will host a special program on bees this Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m. at Kinsmen Wellesey Park in Wakamow. Learn about bee species and what flowers you should plant to help them. Participants will also be able to build their own mini bee bath to take home. You do not need to register ahead of time, although please note there is a $3 to $4 fee to cover the cost of materials.

Walk/Run for Mental Health

Looking to get some exercise this weekend? You might want to participate in the walk/run in support of the Canadian Mental Health Association on Sunday, beginning at 7:45 p.m. at Spring Creek. There is no registration fee, but donations are gladly accepted. Meet at the park on the south side by the mailboxes, close to Simcoe and 11th Avenue.
