The Moose Jaw Winmar Warriors will be looking to get back on the winning track after dropping a 4-1 decision to the Saskatoon Contacts in Sask Male AAA Hockey League action on Saturday afternoon at the Moose Jaw Events Centre.

The loss was the fourth in five games for Moose Jaw and saw the local crew drop to 4-6-0-2 on the season to sit tied for seventh place in the 12-team league.

Jake Britlz scored the Warriors’ lone goal and snapped Saskatoon’s shut-out bid with 1:33 remaining in the contest.

Braeden Jockims gave the Contacts a 1-0 lead out of the first period before Brodie Scopick and Tyler Phipps scored just over two minutes apart midway though the second to extend the visitors’ edge to 3-0.

The Warriors went all in on a comeback attempt with an early goaltender pull, leading to Zach Moore scoring an empty netter with 4:36 to play to close out scoring for the Contacts.

Ryan Hicks had a 28-save performance in goal for Moose Jaw, Logan Edmonstone stopped 35 shots for the Warriors.

Saskatoon improved to 10-2-0-0 with the win, moving a point clear of the Saskatoon Blazers for first place in the SMAAAHL.

The Winmar Warriors won’t have to wait long to try and get back in the win column, as they’re right back on the ice on Sunday afternoon when they host the Warman Wildcats (5-4-0-0).

Game time is 1:30 p.m. at the Moose Jaw Events Centre.
