Western Hockey League COVID testing finds no cases in Warriors, East Division

Total of 602 tests administered over last week in East and Central Division, all tests come back negative
COVID test negative
The WHL has yet to see a COVID-19 test come back positive.
The news will come as no surprise given how East Division teams were on the ice for their first practices in the Regina hub on Friday morning, but the Western Hockey League has seen nothing but good news with their COVID-19 testing regime.

The league announced Friday afternoon that a further 602 tests were conducted this past week, with no tests coming back as positive for the novel coronavirus.

That includes a total of 428 tests for all seven East Division clubs -- the Moose Jaw Warriors, Regina Pats, Saskatoon Blades, Swift Current Broncos, Prince Albert Raiders, Winnipeg Ice, and Brandon Wheat Kings -- after they arrived in the Regina hub at the beginning of the week and a second time after the mandatory five-day quarantine period.

Over in the Central Division, a total of 159 tests were administered, marking the fourth week the entire Alberta-based division had come through clean.

The WHL is using private PCR testing in order to avoid stress on the provincial medical health systems. DynaLIFE is providing the service, the same company that did so for the National Hockey League bubble during the 2020 playoffs this summer.

To date, the WHL has administered 1,099 tests from Feb. 12 through Mar. 5. No positive results have been detected.

Testing will continue throughout the league’s 24-game schedule.
