The Moose Jaw Police Service informs residents of scam phone calls

Beware of a new scam going around Moose Jaw

A number of Moose Jaw residents have received phone calls from individuals who claim to have kidnapped a loved one. The callers then instruct the family member to drive to a financial institution and wait further instructions.

In some occasions a child in distress can be heard in the background, which is believed to be a recording.

It is believed the information about resident’s loved ones is being obtained through their individual social media accounts.

The Police Service would like to remind the public to avoid posting personal information on social media, which may be available to people outside of their followers - in particular, names of family members and associated phone numbers.

In the event you receive a phone call as described above, attempt to contact your loved ones to confirm their safety; if unable to reach them, contact the Moose Jaw Police Service.
