Saskatchewan's economy is getting a boost, thanks to wholesale trade growth.
Statistics Canada reports that the province led western Canada and ranked second among the provinces in year-over-year wholesale trade growth.
Wholesale trade was up 17.3 per cent (seasonally adjusted) in March 2019, as compared to March 2018. This amounts to the second-highest percentage increase among the provinces.
Trade increased across Canada by 2.8 per cent.
Machinery, equipment and supplies enjoyed major gains of 11.5 per cent, while miscellaneous merchant wholesale was up 35.5 per cent.
Total wholesale trade for March was $2.45 billion.
“Saskatchewan’s sustained growth in wholesale trade shows our economy is on the right track despite the external headwinds that it is facing,” Trade and Export Development Minister Jeremy Harrison said in a press release. “The rise in year-over-year increases are substantial and well above the national average.”
