SGI not offering Wing in the New Year program this year

SGI and the City of Moose Jaw typically offer free bus rides on New Year's Eve, but that won't be possible this year

A long-standing tradition has been put on hold.

SGI will not be offering its annual Wing in the New Year program this year. It is the first time in history the program has been suspended.

For more than three decades, SGI has partnered with the cities of Regina, Saskatoon, Prince Albert and Moose Jaw to offer free transit service on New Year’s Eve as an option for a safe, sober ride home.

Unfortunately, the program cannot be offered, due to the ongoing pandemic.

SGI believes the program will return next year.

In the meantime, SGI offers the following tips to get home safe this holiday season:

  • plan ahead and designate a driver;
  • call a sober person in your household or bubble;
  • take a taxi, rideshare, designated driving service, or transit where available; or
  • if you’re at someone else’s place, stay over.
