Although COVID-19 continues to impact the economy, the province of Saskatchewan is doing its best to weather the storm.

Saskatchewan’s wholesale trade in April 2020 was up 1.6 per cent (seasonally adjusted) over the previous month to $2.3 billion.

That is the highest increase among the provinces. It is also well ahead of the Canadian average of a decline of 21.6 per cent.

“We have faced our share of challenges with COVID-19, but this leading indicator shows that we are better positioned than many other jurisdictions to recover from this pandemic,” Trade and Export Development Minister Jeremy Harrison said in a press release. “Our people and our businesses are resilient as demonstrated by these statistics showing that businesses continue to purchase in large quantities in order to resell them.”

On a year-over-year basis, wholesale trade in the province was down by 2.7 per cent. This represents the second-lowest decrease among the provinces. The Canadian average saw a decline of 23.4 per cent over the same period.
