The province has announced that nearly $2 million in funding will be provided to child care facilities across the province to support safety requirements for the pandemic.

“Saskatchewan’s child care facilities have been an exceptional support to Saskatchewan families since the pandemic began,” said Education Minister Dustin Duncan, in a press release.  “We are pleased to deliver nearly $2 million in funding to these facilities to assist them in providing safe environments for children and staff.”

The funding will be used to address the pressing safety needs in licensed child care facilities and family child care homes for children and staff, including the cost of personal protective equipment and cleaning and sanitization supplies.

It will be provided as a one-time grant of $100 per child, sourced from the Federal Safe Start Agreement developed specifically to aid the child care sector during COVID-19.

The new funding will be provided in addition to ongoing provincial operating grants from the Government of Saskatchewan and the Ministry of Education.
