Run to the Oasis returning to cruise Moose Jaw

The Run to Oasis weekend will bring over 100 specialty cars to Moose Jaw to see the sights and show off their shine

Every year, the rumble of motors rolls into the Prairie Oasis campground and settles in for the weekend, and this year that weekend is Aug. 23-25.

Run to the Oasis is shaping up to be another impressive gathering of hot rods, motorcycles, and custom builds ready to polish up and cruise through Moose Jaw before settling in for a Show and Shine.

Registered cars are invited to a welcome bonfire the evening of Aug. 23, which will feature some live entertainment and some creative car games — such as the balance beam, challenging drivers to position their vehicles right in the centre.

Things officially kick off on Aug. 24, with the annual poker run getting rolling at 11 a.m. Cars have a few choice destinations to stop around Moose Jaw during the Run, including Wakamow Valley and a local car collection east of the city.

The final destination is a group Show and Shine, where everyone will park in the shadow of Moose Jaw’s favourite moose at the Tourism Information Centre, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Cars are welcome to join in the Show and Shine, even if they aren’t taking part in the Run, and everyone is welcome to come down and see the display.

The Majestics Car Club from Regina has been organizing this event for over 30 years, and expects to see around 150 cars and 250 guests take part in the weekend. Car enthusiasts travel from all over to join in, some as far as B.C. and the United States.

Run participants are then treated to another bonfire that evening, followed by a breakfast and awards presentation to wrap up the weekend on Aug. 25.

Mark Barnard, from the Majestics Car Club, says the event is both a fun gathering and a chance to take a cruise to a new locale.

“It just helps out other communities,” said Barnard. “[Our annual car show in Regina] has been over 50 years supporting Regina's local charities, so we just like to extend out a little bit further, and it just gives people a destination to go.”

Proceeds from the event will be donated to the Moose Jaw Humane Society, and any food leftover during the weekend will be taken to Riverside Mission as a donation.

It’s not too late to join the crew, as registration will continue up until the morning of Aug. 24, closing at 11 a.m. before things get started. The registration form can be found on the Majestics Car Club’s website, or you can show up on Friday evening or Saturday morning to register. More information is located on their Facebook page
