Resident ‘speechless, emotional, honoured’ after receiving national award

Christian Horizons held its annual meeting on Sept. 28 in Saskatoon and presented businessman Greg Moore with its 2022-23 Excellence in Action Award for supporting people with mobility challenges.

A national non-profit organization that helps people with disabilities accomplish their goals and thrive in communities has officially recognized businessman Greg Moore with a major award for his efforts to help residents.

Christian Horizons held its annual meeting on Sept. 28 in Saskatoon and presented Moore with its 2022-23 Excellence in Action Award. The award recognized how he goes “above and beyond by creatively addressing barriers and (discovering) solutions that help the people who use Christian Horizons’ services (in Moose Jaw) to receive the mobility supports they need.”

The agency presented Moore with a framed painting called “The Bridge of Determination” by Toronto artist Marth Ramirez. The orange and yellow leaves in the picture represent justice and bravery waiting on the other side of the bridge to meet with those who cross.

Moore works at Motion Mobility and Home Accessibility Products at 319 Main Street North — formerly known as Easy Care Living Centre and Golden Mobility and Rehab Limited.

Easy Care Living Centre began in 1989 under Brian Arnold, who asked Moore — then 25 — to join him. Moore bought the business in 1992 and owned it until 2008 before selling it because of burn-out. However, he re-purchased the shop in 2013 before selling it again in 2021 due to health issues and began working as a regular employee.

“Very speechless, emotional and honoured by (Christian Horizons’) kind words,” Moore said in a brief email to the Express.

The national non-profit explained that Moore has aligned his efforts in the services he provides with the organization’s strategic goals, and as a community vendor, he has demonstrated what it looks like to ensure people feel that they belong in their communities.

“Greg does this by the level in which he values and respects those we serve and in his collaboration with them to meet each person’s individual needs, thus enabling them to engage fully in their home and community,” the agency said.

Moore has enabled growth and development in not only the people whom Christian Horizons serves but also in those who provide support, while looking for solutions to challenges and barriers that others have already experienced, the organization continued.

Meanwhile, through his services, he allows customers to experience the non-profit’s four core values by demonstrating each of them in every interaction he has with people.

“Greg promotes communities where everybody belongs, he values them and their opinions, he respects the gifts they have to share with others (and) he embraces and welcomes them, thus demonstrating to others how to foster belonging,” the organization added.

“And where he excels is in serving others, as he does so with heart and grace.”
