On the afternoon of June 19, the Moose Jaw Police dismissed Alan Murdock from service, due to several claims of misconduct.

The dismissal follows investigations into the allegations, taking place over several years and cumulating in this decision.

Murdock has been deemed unfit for police service in accordance with Section 60 of The Police Act, 1990, and as such no longer belongs to the Moose Jaw Police, no longer has the authority granted to a police officer, and cannot take part in police activities.

Chief Rick Bourassa was unable to give details regarding the allegations that prompted this dismissal, as there is a 30-day appeal period that could extend the investigation.

Chief Bourassa did offer a statement regarding the decision.

“We really take public trust and public confidence in our service seriously, and some of our key values are all around maintaining integrity and making sure that we, as an organization, are conducting ourselves in such a way that we maintain that trust and confidence from the public,” said Chief Bourassa.

Murdock spent approximately 30 years in service, prior to his dismissal.

The Moose Jaw Police Service is also asking that if anyone in the community has pertinent information that has not been shared regarding this investigation, to contact them at (306) 694-7600.
