It might have taken a little longer to put their opponent away than they would have liked, given their control of the game, but in the end a win is a win for the Prairie Hockey Academy U17 Prep Cougars.

The Cougars outshot the Regina Capitals 35-11 through the first two periods in Sask AA Hockey League U18 action on Saturday night at Barkman Arena, but found themselves saddled with a 2-2 tie.

That all changed in the third, though, as Ethan Dekay gave PHA a 3-2 lead at the midway point of the frame before Brydon Bell and Davis Hunter scored two minutes apart late in the period to secure a 5-3 victory.

Landen Connors scored in the first for the Cougars, Carson Haugan had their lone goal of the second. Bell and Kelly each had two assists for PHA. The teams were tied 1-1 after the first and 2-2 through two.

Justin Dueck earned the win in goal, stopping 20 shots, while the Cougars fired 52 total at Regina.

Prairie Hockey Academy improved to 5-0 on the season and sit in third place in the SAAHL South Sask standings with a game in hand against the Notre Dame U17s and Lumsden / Bethune.

The 17 Prep Cougars will face those very same Hounds in a home-and-away set this coming weekend, as they travel to Wilcox on Friday before hosting Notre Dame on Saturday, Nov. 28 at 4:30 p.m. at Barkman Arena.

The U16 Prep Cougars (1-3)  are also in action against the U16 Hounds this weekend, hosting Notre Dame on Friday night at 7p.m. and travelling to Wilcox on Saturday.
