The Prairie Hockey Academy Cougars are into the semifinal at the Canadian Sport School Hockey League Midget Varsity championships in Penticton, B.C.

And in style, at that.

The Cougars capped a perfect run through the round robin with a 6-2 win over International Hockey Academy on Friday and a 5-2 win against Okanagan HA on Saturday morning, finishing atop Pool B with a 3-0 record and advancing to the final four on Sunday afternoon

Things were close in the early going against IHA, as Lang Lee would score with 4:57 to play in the first to send the two teams into the break tied 1-1.

That would all change in the second, though, as Chase Jocelyn, Landen Connors and Zach Ashworth all scored to give the Cougars a 4-1 lead through two.

Seth Roskos would make it 5-1 PHA in the third before International scored a pair late to make things interesting. Jocelyn would close out things with an empty netter with 16 seconds to play.

Brody Hsiao made 29 saves to earn the win in goal, the Cougars have 37 shots.

Things were especially close against Okanagan, as they’d score early in the third period to tie the game 2-2. PHA would take over from there, as Mikkel Hrechka restored the lead four minutes after the tying goal, Coen Bear made it a two-goal lead two minutes later and Lee closed out scoring with an empty netter.

Brandon Kelly scored to give PHA a 1-0 lead out of the first, Ashworth scored in the second to put the Cougars ahead 2-1 through two.

Ryley Gross had a 46-save showing in goal, PHA recorded 33 shots.

The Cougars will now face the second-place team out of Pool A – either Edge School, Pilot Mound or CDA Hockey Academy – with the winner advancing to the gold medal game on Monday.
