MOOSE JAW — The Moose Jaw Police Service says it has arrested and charged a 63-year-old male in what it describes as a large-scale online scam with victims from across Canada.

It's been a lengthy investigation, say police, starting in 2024, when the MJPS’s Criminal Investigation Section CIS began an investigation into the fraudulent activity of a Moose Jaw resident. As part of the investigation, CIS conducted a search warrant on a residence on Aug. 29.

MJPS has arrested and charged Timothy Hollinger, 63, with one count each of fraud over $5,000, fraud under $5,000, and money laundering.

During the scam, say police, victims were encouraged to send money via e-transfer or wire transfer as part of an online loan application through fraudulent websites.

Hollinger made his first appearance in the Moose Jaw Provincial Court on Sept. 2 and was remanded into police custody. His next court appearance is scheduled for Sept. 5.

This file is ongoing, and the MJPS says it is working to identify additional victims with the assistance of law enforcement partners. If you or someone you know is believed to be a victim of this fraud, they ask you to please contact Moose Jaw Police Service at 306-694-7600.
