The Peacock Toilers finished second to Lumsden at a tournament this past weekend.

The Peacock Toilers just keep on with their winning ways in Moose Jaw High School Athletic Association girls volleyball.

But things are going to be very interesting when it comes to sorting out who finishes in second place and beyond, based on how matches have played out through the first half of the season.

The Toilers -- fresh off a second-place at a tournament in Lumsden this past weekend --   improved to 4-0 on the campaign with a three-game win over the Briercrest Christian Academy Cougars on Tuesday night in Caronport, taking a 25-17, 25-19, 25-23 victory.

The Central Cyclones also found the win column Tuesday, taking a 3-1 (25-13, 25-21, 25-17, 25-12) victory over the Notre Dame Hounds -- and with that, things become interesting in the battle for second place in the season’s second half..

Central, Briercrest Christian and the Vanier Spirits are all tied a 2-2 through the first four games, meaning whoever can get hot through the remainder of the season will likely land home-gym advantage in the first round of the playoffs.

The top two spots in boys play are a little more settled at the moment.

The Vanier Vikings improved to 5-0 with a 3-0 (25-3, 25-13, 25-20) win over Peacock on Tuesday, while Assiniboia held onto second place at 4-1 with a barnburner of a battle with Central, taking a 3-2 (25-21, 25-23, 20-25, 17-25, 16-14) win.

The Cornerstone Christian School Falcons also emerged victorious, defeating the Avonlea Eagles 3-0 (25-14, 25-17, 25-18).

That sets up a three-team tie for third place, with Central, Peacock and Cornerstone all sitting at 2-3 on the campaign.

Girls league action continues on Thursday night, with Peacock at Central at 6:20 p.m. and Vanier at Briercrest Christian at 8 p.m. Boys action will see Vanier at Cornerstone and Assiniboia at Avonlea at 7 p.m. before Peacock and Central face off at 8 p.m.
