A total of 341 impaired driving offences were reported across the province during the month of August as part of the Traffic Safety Spotlight.

According to SGI, 295 drivers were charged with an impaired driving offence under the Criminal Code. An additional 46 drivers were issued roadside administrative suspensions.

SGI says that impaired driving remains the top cause of fatal road crashes in Saskatchewan. If you suspect a driver is impaired, pull over and call 9-1-1 immediately. Be sure to provide as much as detail as possible.

In addition to the impaired driving offences, police also reported:

  • 7,762 aggressive driving or speeding offences;
  • 949 distracted driving offences (including 880 for cellphone use while driving);
  • 632 inappropriate or no seatbelt/child restraint offences.

School zones are the focus of September’s Traffic Safety Spotlight.
