The Moose Jaw Multicultural Council (MJMC), a non-profit charity that works with government to receive, settle, and integrate newcomers to the country, is appealing for help from the community of Moose Jaw for personal hygiene items for several incoming families.

"We have a few families coming from Afghanistan this month, and actually we are almost out of stock on some personal hygiene donations," a spokesperson for the MJMC said. "They are coming between the 15th and 20th, two families then, and at the end of the month, we have one or two more families coming."

The list includes the following hygiene items, which must be unopened for safety reasons:

  • deodorant
  • shampoo
  • conditioner
  • body lotion
  • body wash
  • toothpaste
  • toothbrushes
  • baby products
  • female hygiene products

The MJMC relies on community donations for help in many instances, and has noted that Moose Javians tend to be generous and welcoming to newcomers. Donating clothing, household goods, and other essentials helps newcomers in their settlement process and demonstrates Canadian values to people who probably didn't know where Moose Jaw was before being assigned to live here.

Donations can be dropped off at the MJMC office at 60 Athabasca Street East, in St. Andrew's United Church, during their regular office hours. Donations can also be co-ordinated by calling the MJMC at (306) 693-4677 or emailing at reception@mjmcinc.ca.
